Why You Should Visit Belize

Belize is a beautiful country on the Carribean Sea. It is almost a tenth the size of California but has a population of only three hundred thousand (300,000). To put this in perspective, I live in a city called Santa Clara in California and 300,000 is the population of that city alone. Imagine a country like Belize with that small a population. What that essentially means is that the country is pretty much untouched and pristine from the days when Christopher Columbus set foot on the Americas.

From beautiful beaches, pristine islands, the second largest barrier reef in the world to adventure activities like zip-lining,cave-tubing, scuba driving, snorkelling and fishing... Belize offers it all.

Here are 5 reasons why you should visit Belize

1. Belize has some of the best beaches in the world and is one of the best sites in the world for scuba diving &snorkelling.  Belize has the second largest barrier reef in the world and it is considered a UNESCO world heritage site. For anyone who loves swimming among beautiful fishes and other marine wildlife, snorkelling in Belize is a must! The Deep Blue Hole is a divers ultimate paradise and an absolute panoramic beauty.

2. Belize is  the Mayan heartland.

Belize has the highest concentration of Maya archaeological sites in Mesoamerica. Xunantunich in San Ignacio, Lamanai and Altan Ha are the most popular. In addition, other sites such as Tikal in Guatemala and Chichen Itza in Mexico are only a few hours by drive.

3. Nature, Mountains, Waterfalls and rivers!

Belize is a top destination for seeing tropical rainforests. The lush green rainforests , mountains and flowing rivers create some amazing landscapes. Ziplining is a popular tourist attraction. For the slightly more adventurous,  there is cave tubing. You enter a river on a floating tube and then flow with the river as it meanders through miles of underground caves. The guides take care of you all throughout the journey. And finally, Belize has ample fresh water(lakes& rivers) for you to just jump into and enjoy a relaxing swim.

4. Simple and good food.

Belizian cuisine is an wholesome, delicious and healthy. What I remember the most about Belize is picking avacadoes& mangoes straight off the trees by the freeway and eating them off then and there. Apart from that, Mestizo, Maya, Creole, and Garifuna people, all have their foods integrated into Belizian cuisine. You can expect to eat fryjack and refried beans for breakfast and Rice and Beans with fish for lunch.

5. There are plenty of beautiful islands.

There are many beautiful islands all along the Belize Barrier Reef. These are a short boat ride from the coastline. The islands called "Caye" are mostly uninhabited. One of these, Ambergris Caye has consistenly been voted the most beautiful island in the world.
